Intro
Don't ask me why I've decided to start this blog all of a sudden. I've been working as a server for a well-known chain of "casual dining" restaurants for some time, and have never really had the urge to write about it until now. Up until recently, I've seen my job as something I just went and did for 30 hours a week to pay the bills. I still do think of it like that, but I've started to see it in a bit of a different light as well. You see, my job gives me a pretty unique view of people and society in general. I talk to hundreds of strangers every week, and each one of them is different. Each one of them has a story to tell. How do I know their stories? Well, they tell me. They tell me through their words and their actions.
I figure that while I'm doing what I'm doing, I might as well make something out of it. I'll turn it into a social experiment of sorts.
Well, I suppose "experiment" isn't really the correct term. I think it's more of an exercise in social observation. Of course, I don't have anything specific to prove or disprove. I'm not out to discriminate against or pick on any group of people and show them superior or inferior. I'm simply going to write about what I see and hear, from the perspective of a waiter at a restaurant.
I find that about 85% of people that sit in my section are perfectly fine. They're well adjusted individuals that can behave appropriately in a public setting. The other 15%, well, that's another story.
And that's exactly the story I'm going to tell.
